Pope Francis writes that the parish must be "an environment for hearing God's word, for growth in the Christian life, for dialogue, proclamation, charitable outreach, worship and celebration, a community of communities, a sanctuary where the thirsty come to drink in the midst of their journey, and a center of constant missionary outreach."

To try and respond to this mission of the Church in the world, St. Joseph's has a variety of ministries offering different ways for people to bring the variety of their gifts to the service of God's People and the world: Apostolic Council: a servant-leadership group dedicated to planning and coordinating the various elements and activities of St. Joseph Parish.
Liturgical Ministries: there are many ways of helping St. Joseph be a vibrant worshiping community. These include:
• Music Ministry
• Altar Servers
• Lectors
• Eucharistic Ministry
Catechetical Formation (Religious Education): from preparation for receiving the sacraments to inquiries into the Catholic faith and growth in knowledge of the faith, members of the parish community serve as catechists, accompanying and instructing children, youth and adults.
Knights of Columbus: a fraternal organization of Catholic men dedicated to living out their faith more fully and serving others in a variety of activities that enhance the life of the local community.
Social Service Ministries: key to any genuine faith is the way that people of faith care for those most in need among them. St. Joseph's has two specific ministries dedicated to this service: St. John XXIII Center in Hurtsboro, Alabama.
Cursillo: this supports men and women in their own personal encounter with Christ as well as supporting and encouraging them to be an active force for good in their world. Besides the Cursillo Weekends, there are regular weekly groupings as well as larger monthly gatherings called "Ultreyas" to assist in the ongoing development of a living faith that impacts our daily world.
Couples for Christ: an international movement to promote an active, living faith in couples as well as in the entire family including children and youth. This group meets weekly as well as sponsoring a number of events throughout the year to enhance the full living of a Catholic family life.
Emmaus Retreat Movement: beginning with a weekend retreat (currently offered several times each year in Spanish), the participants continue to grow in their faith-life through a series of regular monthly encounters as well as special gatherings for teaching and instruction.
Parish Finance Council: representatives from the parish meet regularly to provide stewardship and oversight regarding the financial situation of the parish, make quarterly fiscal reports to the parish, and seek ways to enhance the parish's ability to grow financially and reach out to the larger community.
